SONORAN DESERT CENTIPEDE

$25.00

The Sonoran Desert centipede, also called the tiger centipede for the dark lateral stripe running down each body segment, is a fast, venomous nocturnal predator common across Arizona's arid grasslands and desert scrub. Its coloration is famously variable, which is reflected in the species name polymorpha, meaning many forms, ranging from browns, reds, and oranges to populations elsewhere that appear pale blue with indigo stripes and turquoise legs.

Like all centipedes, it moves on a single pair of legs per body segment, with the front-most pair modified into venom-injecting fangs called forcipules rather than true jaws. It generally shelters under rocks, logs, and in burrows during the day, emerging at night to hunt.
