ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD
Anna's hummingbird is the most common year-round hummingbird in the Tucson area, present at feeders and flowering plants in every season rather than passing through only during migration like many of its relatives. Males display an iridescent rose-pink crown and throat that can flash brilliantly in direct light or appear nearly black depending on the angle, while females are duller green above with limited pink flecking on the throat.
Unlike most North American hummingbirds, Anna's hummingbird does not undertake a long-distance migration, instead shifting its range only modestly with the seasons and remaining largely resident across much of its range, including low-desert Arizona.
