COYOTE

$36.51 AUD (plus tax)

The coyote is one of Arizona's most adaptable and widespread wild mammals, at home in Sonoran Desert scrub, grassland, mountain valleys, farmland, and city neighborhoods alike. Smaller and more slightly built than a gray wolf, it carries tall, pointed ears, a narrow muzzle, and a bushy, black-tipped tail that it holds low when running. Most Arizona coyotes wear the telltale yellow-gray desert coat typical of the region's southern subspecies.

The species' name comes from the Nahuatl word coyotl, and it has long figured as a trickster figure in the folklore of the Southwest and Mesoamerica. Today it remains a familiar, if wary, presence across the Tucson area, turning up in washes, parks, golf courses, and backyards wherever food, water, or shelter is available.
